Save Calories -- Remove The Bun!

I Was Resisting Talking About This

This being the KFC's Double-Down sandwich. Sandwich in the loose sense, since it involves replacing the top and bottom buns with... wait for it... two pieces of fried chicken. Your choice of Original or Grilled. Here's part of the KFC spiel on this Big Food debacle, as part of a meal combo, because you can't possibly not have fried potatoes with this "sandwich":

The new KFC Double Down sandwich is real! This one-of-a-kind sandwich features two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce. This product is so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!

Actually, the L.A. Times Blog picture is much sexier. And the article is good, too.

The nutrition facts aren’t the best, as you can imagine. The Double Down weighs in at 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and -- hold on -- 1,380 milligrams of sodium. KFC offers a grilled version that mysteriously is just as bad and has more sodium: 460 calories, 23 grams of fat and 1,430 milligrams of sodium.

I just saw this bit with Mario Batalli on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.

Mario Batalli has thought about eating KFC's Double Down because he's not averse to the idea of using protein as bread.

The frightening thought is that either (a) someone will see this and try it or (b) someone ALREADY HAS. Because, as you know, when it comes to Big Food, not only do great minds think alike, but excess is never enough for some people.
