A History of Computer Programming Languages

If you have ever programmed in more than one language, or have had to deal with the aftermath of others programming in multiple languages, you should appreciate this: James Iry's History of Programming (Illustrated With Pictures and Large Fonts). (Via Steve Buchheit)

It's pretty tongue-in-cheek, making wonderful disparaging remarks about everything. Also a wonderful subplot involving Skynet. (snicker) And a great COBOL description -- Cole, you'll like this.

For the record I have had to program in multiple dialects of BASIC, FORTRAN, APL, PL-1, Pascal, C. Plus programming-like systems such as HTML, LATeX, and Lotus 1-2-3/Excel spreadsheets. Also multiple HP and TI programmable calculators.

Probably missed some things in that list, including various oddball parallel and vector programming schemes.

Still funny.
